BAPIO President Dr. Ramesh Mehta met Dr. Ranee Thakar, President RCOG, and Ms. Carley Edwards, Executive Director for Education and Quality at the College premises on 4th April 2024 to discuss collaboration between the two organisations.
Dr Thakar welcomed the BAPIO President and appreciated BAPIO’s work on EDI issues. She explained the proactive work being done by the college on this issue including a frontline survey done recently. However, she said, the college is concerned about racial and ethnic inequities still being reported in the day-to-day working lives of O&G professionals. Dr Thakar said “Tackling racial inequity in women’s health outcomes will remain at the core of all College work on maternity safety. The College Race Equity Project will focus on how as a professional membership body we can support doctors working in O&G to address differential attainment and barriers to career progression”. BAPIO has been invited to be on the expert advisory group of the RCOG Race Equity Project.
There were discussions on collaboration on BAPIO Training Academy’s work in the UK as well as in India. Ms Edwards, the Executive Director for Education and Quality, showed keen interest in this collaboration. There were also agreements on supporting research and international work.
Dr Mehta invited the college President and Ms Edwards to the BAPIO Annual Conference on 20-21 September at Bristol which was graciously accepted by them.
