In a glittering ceremony, Lord Bhikhu Parekh launched the BAPIO Yorkshire Division on 19th of June 2004 in Rotherham, Yorkshire. Lord Bhikhu Parekh, one of the Peer in the House of Lords, lit the traditional lamp to mark formal launch of the BAPIO Yorkshire Division. The president of BAPIO, Dr Ramesh Mehta remarked that this was a wonderful opportunity for our national body to build close ties with the Doctors in the Yorkshire Division.
Lord Bhikhu Parekh in his address said,” Doctors of Indian Origin need to be proactive in moving up the ladder” In his typical philosophical style Lord Parekh analyzed the strengths and weaknesses in the Indian community in UK. He wished BAPIO success.
The Yorkshire division is lead by Dr.Rajeev Gupta who put in a lot of hard work in organizing this function and was grateful to the guests for their support. Other officials present included the then BAPIO Chairman, Professor Romesh Gupta, Vice Chairman Dr.Umesh Prabhu, Hon Secretary Satwinder Basra, Professor Sam Lingam from British International Doctors Association and Dr.Vitthal Patel from India.
