Physicians of Indian origin from around the world, gathered at Clearwater, Florida for the 7th midyear conference of the Global Association of Physicians of Indian Origin held on 29th and 30th July 2017. It was organized by GAPIO in collaboration with the American College of Academic International Medicine (ACAIM).
Conference was inaugurated by the Chief Guest Mr. Nagesh Singh, Consul General of India for the US south-eastern region. He spoke about U.S.-India relations and role of Indian doctors in healthcare delivery in USA and across the globe in his speech.
More than 200 physicians, academicians, and researchers came from United States, Canada, the U.K., Australia, New Zealand, Africa and Middle East, as well as India. Dr. Ramesh Mehta said GAPIO has members from 34 countries and represents some 1.3 million physicians of Indian origin around the world. Prof. Terence Stephenson, Chairman, General Medical Council, UK gave a Key note address on ‘Regulation & Professionalism as a means of ensuring the quality of Patient care’:
Two days of intensive sessions were held, and experts discussed the recent advances in global health care. The delegates represented a diverse group of specialists and major focus was on addressing recent breakthroughs in the field of diabetes, cardiovascular diseases, hypertension and stroke, oncology, renal transplant, robotic surgery, maternal and infant health. There was also discussion on emerging healthcare challenges, leadership development and ethics.
Faculty have put in great effort in putting up an impressive scientific content. Feedback is very good.
On 28th July, an International Leadership Collaboration Summit was held under the Chairmanship of Dr Gautam Samadder, President American Association of Physicians of Indian Origin (AAPI). It was resolved that there will be close collaboration between GAPIO, AAPI and BAPIO.
Dr Mehta, GAPIO President thanked Dr Kiran Patel for his kind Hospitality. He also expressed his grateful thanks to Dr Stanislaw P. Stawicki, Dr sagar Galwankar and Mr Anwar Feroz for their hard work in ensuring the success of the conference.
