Research & Innovation Competition during BAPIO Annual Conference Attracts High Calibre Oral & Poster Presentations

On 20 September 2024, during the BAPIO Annual Conference in Bristol, BAPIO held its annual Research & Innovation Competition. The competition was open to all Doctors-in-training, Medical Students, PhD/MSc Students, Health Science EPQ Students, Clinical Fellows, MTIs, LEDs, SAS doctors and other health care professionals. Interested individuals submitted their proposals online and selected numbers were invited to present their research either as an oral, poster or online presentation during the BAPIO Annual Conference.

The competition was organised by Dr Indranil Chakravorty (Chair, BAPIO Institute for Health Research). The research presentations were judged on the day by Prof Sunil Bhandari (Vice President, England & Wales, Royal College of Physicians of Edinburgh), Dr Richa Singh (GP Partner, Dorset), Mr Abhay Chopada (Consultant Colorectal Surgeon and Honorary Senior Lecturer, Imperial College School of Medicine) and Dr Satish Babu (Director of Academics & Quality, Sri Madhusudhan Sai Institute of Medical Sciences and Research). BAPIO was delighted to receive the support of the Royal College of Physicians of Edinburgh (RCPE) and the Royal College of Paediatrics and Child Health (RCPCH) who sponsored the competition. The first prize for the oral presentations was jointly awarded by RCPE and BAPIO while the first prize was the poster presentations was jointly awarded by RCPCH and BAPIO.

The judges were highly impressed by the quality of the presentations on the day in all categories. After lengthy deliberations, the judges awarded the prizes as follows
