BAPIO meets with Indian High Commissioner to the UK, HE Shri Vikram Doraiswami

Dr. Ramesh Mehta CBE, President of BAPIO, accompanied by senior BAPIO members, Dr. Satheesh Mathew, Prof Parag Singhal OBE and Dr Joydeep Grover, called on HE Shri Vikram Doraiswami, High Commissioner of India to the UK, on 1 September 2025 at India House.

The meeting covered a range of discussion areas including BAPIO’s upcoming transition to charity status (BAPIO Foundation), the potential for UK doctors to teach at Indian hospitals, increased outreach to the Indian community in the UK, the importance of highlighting the contributions of Indian-origin doctors, nurses and other healthcare professionals to the NHS, medical value travel from the UK to India as well as a road safety campaign in India.

The High Commissioner congratulated BAPIO on its planned transition to becoming a charity, BAPIO Foundation. He also praised BAPIO for its unwavering commitment to strengthening ties between the UK and India. Additionally, Shri Doraiswami expressed support for the BAPIO Training Academy’s initiative to promote medical value travel from the UK to India and its upcoming plan to launch a road safety campaign in India.

BAPIO would like to thank His Excellency for taking the time to meet the BAPIO team and looks forward to continuing to work closely with the High Commission of India in the UK.
