BAPIO Announces Winners of BAPIO Awards 2024

The British Association of Physicians of Indian Origin (BAPIO) announced the winners of the prestigious BAPIO awards during the BAPIO Annual Conference Gala Dinner held on 21 September 2024 in Bristol. The awards committee, headed by Prof Geeta Menon, received multiple nominations across the different award categories and after careful deliberation, awarded the awards to the following individuals

  • BAPIO Award for Professional Excellence in Service Design and Innovation: Dr Satinder Mann
  • BAPIO Award for Outstanding Contributions to Equality and Diversity: Dr Rajeev Gupta
  • Outstanding Service to BAPIO Award: Dr Sanjay Gupta
  • Women’s Role Model of the Year: Dr Shannu Bhatia
  • Nurse of the Year: Mr Suresh Packiam
  • Doctor of the Year: Dr Hemant Nemade
  • Imran Yousaf Memorial Award (for supporting distressed NHS professionals): Dr. Sunil Kumar
  • Viju Mohanty Award for Academia or Research: Prof Neeraj Bhala
  • President’s Award for Professional Excellence: Prof Stuart Walker
  • President’s Award for Voluntary Contribution during COVID Pandemic: Mr Manmohan Jain
  • President’s Award for Collaborative Leadership: Dr Shivani Bhandari & Dr Gauri Pradhan

The awards were presented by Prof Steve Powis (National Medical Director, NHS England), Lord Lieutenant Bristol Mrs Peaches Golding, Dr. Ramesh Mehta (President, BAPIO), Prof Parag Singhal (Hony Secretary, BAPIO and Chair of the Conference Organising Committee), Prof Geeta Menon (Chair, BAPIO), and Dr. Satheesh Mathew (Vice President, BAPIO). The Nurse of the Year award was supported by University Hospitals of Leicester NHS Trust (UHL) and was co-presented by Mr Richard Mitchell, CEO of UHL. BAPIO was also very honored that Mr. Khitish Mohanty, husband of the late Dr. Viju Mohanty, graced the occasion to present the award for academia or research which is awarded in honour of his late wife’s commitment to research and her dedication to BAPIO.
