The British Association of Physicians of Indian Origin (BAPIO) is deeply concerned and appalled by the recent threats and racist attacks on NHS workers from ethnic minorities and international medical graduates. BAPIO unequivocally condemns this discriminatory and illegal behaviour.
Ethnic minority doctors and other healthcare professionals have played an irreplaceable role in building the NHS and continue to provide high quality healthcare services every day to patients, irrespective of ethnicity, gender, country of birth or political views. They deserve to be treated with respect and to be able to do their work without being threatened and attacked.
BAPIO calls for an immediate end to the violence being witnessed in cities across the UK. All BAPIO members and other healthcare professionals should remain vigilant and follow local advisories in areas where protests are under way.
