BAPIO MAP Report 2024

Publication of BIHR report on the Impact of Medical Associate Professionals on SAS, Locally Employed and International Medical Graduates

The British Association of Physicians of Indian Origin (BAPIO) is pleased to announce the publication of the report by the BAPIO Institute of Health Research (BIHR) on the Impact of Medical Associate Professionals (MAPs) on SAS, Locally Employed and International Medical Graduates (IMGs).

There has been a heated debate over recent months on the role of MAPs in the NHS, which has primarily focused on the potential consequences on patient safety. However, the discussion has largely overlooked the impact on SAS and locally employed doctors and IMGs. In order to fully analyse this complex issue, BIHR has undertaken a comprehensive, unbiased, 360-degree assessment of the impact of MAPs on the UK healthcare system, including a focused thematic review, an online survey and a series of focus groups.

Dr. Ramesh Mehta, President of BAPIO said: “This report by BIHR has been extensively researched and has taken on board the views of the many stakeholders groups impacted by MAPs working in the NHS. BIHR has provided an objective assessment of this important topic and  offered balanced  recommendations . I hope that that the suggestions put forward will be considered seriously so that patients can receive the best possible care.”
