What is Mentoring?
Mentoring is a process of maximising the potential of an individual through a process of systematic questioning, empathic listening, non-directive exploration and creation of solution from within a person. Mentoring guides the person to set goals, breaks them into measurable steps and device a mechanism for taking actions.
How does it help?
Mentoring does not just impacts professional and personal development of an individual, it impacts the family and friends and co-workers, who can see the change. Doctors are high achievers who want to excel and develop themselves. Mentoring helps achieve higher levels of success by identifying barriers and empowering mentees to create and implement solutions. Contrary to popular belief that it is for under-achievers, mentoring is a beneficial process for all doctors. In the current climate where efficiency is the buzzword, mentoring seeks to create an ideal springboard for mentees to enjoy and experience an enhanced feeling of satisfaction and achieve more.
Would you like a Mentor?
BAPIO has designed a Mentoring Scheme for its members. Those interested in taking advantage of the scheme or needing more information can contact BAPIO by emailing their request to mentoring@bapio.co.uk.
The process
After an initial process of gathering basic information, the mentee will be matched to a mentor who will offer up to 6 sessions of mentoring. The mentor will keep the discussions confidential.
