BAPIO supports major event at House of Commons on GANDHIAN VALUES AND THE MODERN NHS

The British Association British Association of Physicians of Indian Origin (BAPIO) along with The British International Doctors Association (BIDA), The British Indian Psychiatric Association (BIPA) supported an event organised by Hon Surendra Sharam MP ( a member of Health Select Committee) at the House of Commons to discuss GANDHIAN VALUES AND THE MODERN NHS – CELEBRATING SUCCESS, CHALLENGING DISTRESS on Thursday, 7 March, 2013.

This very successful event was attended by about 100 delegates. The discussions included problems of whistle blowing and discrimination in the NHS. Dr Ramesh Mehta, President, BAPIO congratulated Professor Narinder Kapur for leading and coordinating this significant event.

The programme was chaired by Hon John McDonnell MP, Hon Valerie Vaz, MP (Health Select Committee) and Mr Andy Love MP. The guests speakers included Lord Bhikhu Parekh, Sir Peter Bottomley MP, Dr Ramesh Mehta, President of BAPIO, Dr Deepak Trivedi, National president of BIDA Wigan,Dr Kim Holt, Haringey NHS Trust Ms Julie Bailey, CureTheNHS, Stafford, Dr Umesh Prabhu, Wigan & Leigh NHS Trust, Mr Tom Kark QC, Lead Counsel for Mid-Staffs Inquiry, Professor Sir Brian Jarman, Imperial College. Dr Peter Tomlin, Doctors Support Group and Professor Narinder Kapur.
