Launch of East Midland Division
Dr Ramesh Mehta, President of BAPIO has announced that the East Midland Division of BAPIO will be launched on 11May 2013 at Leicester. A team led by the President, Professor Rajan Madhok, Chairman of BAPIO , Dr Satheesh Mathew, Vice President of BAPIO and Mr Buddhdev Pandya, Director of Corporate Affairs will be touring the region as part of its visit to various regions of the United Kingdom. Dr Dr Raghu Ramaiah, Consultant Paediatric ICU of University Hospitals of Leicester NHS Trust is appointed to Chair BAPIO East Midlands.
In his open invitation letter Dr Ramaiah said he would like to invite collegues from the region to the Re-Launch party of the BAPIO East Midlands, which is part of the BAPIO roadshow being held on the 11th May 2013 at the Paprika Restaurant in Leicester.
He wrote, “ Doctors from the Indian subcontinent has constantly faced up hill battles in the UK although being very successful. The urgent problems facing our colleagues are the GP trainees and I am sure there will be similar problems awaiting Hospital doctors.”
“British Association of Physicians of Indian Origin (BAPIO) has decided to support the International Medical Graduates (IMG) in GP training facing catastrophe in their career as a result of what is described as a the ‘huge’ differential pass rates between them and the UK graduates in the new MRCGP assessment introduced in 2010. RCGP figures for 2010-11 indicate that the failure rate for IMGs taking the CSA component of the MRCGP is at 63.2%, compared with 9.4% of UK graduates. The President of BAPIO, Dr Ramesh Mehta said “While patient safety is of utmost importance to BAPIO and the standards of examination must be maintained; the huge differential between the pass rates is unjustified while all the trainees have gone through the same 3 year training”.
“The Launch meeting is an opportunity for us to have a get together, discuss the successes and difficulties we have shared so far and look forward to working together in bettering our future in the country we had adopted and worked hard for. The afternoon is graced by talks by eminent and highly successful Indians in various fields of medicine including running successful charities. We will also introduce you to where Indian doctors fail and the support you have to protect yourselves including BAPIO’s own Medical Defence Shield.”
“The evening will be a fun filled evening at one of Leicester’s popular and well acclaimed restaurants. The restaurant has a huge children’s play area where the kids and spouses can be while the talks are happening. Come and network amongst your colleagues and friends and learn more about how to be successful, where you have to be careful and expect the troubles which is imminent in the forthcoming days.”
Dr Raghu has requested colleagues to help cascade this to anyone who they think will benefit from the meeting and want to become part of the Association we can all be proud of.
