On Saturday 26th March, the BAPIO Young Doctors Forum hosted their annual MERiT conference online which is now in its third year! Committee members of the BAPIO YDF come from various backgrounds and universities and incorporate the future of the BAPIO community. This year the conference was hosted and designed by the Vice Chairs of Conference, Sulaymaan Al-Majid and Rakhi Katangodage, who put together an amazing day filled with speakers and workshop leads that represent BAPIO’s values and core beliefs.
There were prominent names such as Dr Olamide Dada, founder of Melanin Medics about widening participation and the importance of mentoring alongside Dr Gregori Alberto – founder of the World Orthopaedic Concern UK, a charity focused on improving orthopaedic care for those less fortunate. These inspiring speakers increased out understanding of what it means to be a physician whilst continuing to develop an active interest in passions outside of clinical medicine. The workshops were designed to give attendees a flavour academic and clinic medicine – increasing their interest and understanding of research in medicine or applying for higher specialty training.
As a committee it has taken a massive team effort from organising sponsors to speakers and advertising this conference. The organising committee is extremely proud and impressed with the effort everyone has put in to make this day successful and ensure that the conference can go from strength to strength as next year we look to make it hybrid.
